8/19/14

Knight of Wands reversed/Four of Cups.  The Knight of Wands (cusp of Scorpio, “I desire,” intense, controlling, deep, obsessive, and Sagittarius, “I seek,” philosophic, fun-loving, blundering) usually represents a person of passion, courage, enthusiasm and boundless energy; most definitely not background-type efforts. This Knight can be seen to represent the coming and going of energy, but that process may not be effective because things are not seen through to completion.  My Knight of Wands is reversed, and that might be a good thing; perhaps I will be able to deal with that high energy without also feeling scattered.  The Four of Cups (the Moon, feelings and emotions, illusion, imagination, in Cancer, “I feel,” sensitive, nurturing, tenacious, moody) reminds us that too much pleasure, or maybe too much nurturing or overprotectiveness, deadens the senses. This is a card that describes what can happen when nothing goes wrong in our lives, and I need to remember that being surrounded by pleasures can deaden my motivation.  Thankfully, my reversed Knight just might come to my rescue.

My Thoth cards are the Three of Swords (“Sorrow”) reversed (whew!) and the Seven of Cups (“Debauch”).  The Three of Swords (Saturn, discipline, responsibility, limitations and resistance, in Libra, “We are,” partnerships, balance, cooperation) usually indicates the possibility that logic, rationalizing and the intellect could end up causing harm if they are not used with balance and compassion. Crowley sees this card as indicating not a specific sorrow, but rather melancholy, the kind of melancholy that actually brings changes for the good.  That melancholy might be fading, but because my reversed Three of Swords is paired with the Seven of Cups, it might not be a good thing.  The Seven of Cups (Venus, beauty, allure, relationships, in Scorpio, “I desire,” intense, controlling, obsessive, mysterious) represents the distraction, sensory overload and dissipation that can happen when we are presented with too many enticing choices.  Crowley sees this one as being drunk on pleasure, and it offers another version of paralysis, one hinted at by the Four of Cups above.  I won’t be paralyzed by a logical imbalance, but I could be paralyzed by an emotional one.

My Legacy card is FaithThe Hierophant reversed, flavored by the Eight of Wands.  Faith/The Hierophant corresponds with Earth (cold/binds and dry/shapes), Taurus (“I have,” sensual, cautious, stubborn), Vau (the nail which holds tradition in place), and the Path between Chesed (the place where forms and structures are stabilized and nurtured), and Chokmah (dynamic male energy, the origin of vital force and polarity).  This card is an archetype of Spirit (with The Emperor as archetype of the Sacred Masculine, The Empress as archetype of the Sacred Feminine, and all three representing the supernal triad) that reminds us of the value of tradition, ritual and ceremony, and conforming to the rules and traditions with the aim of presenting the highest good of the group.  There is duty to be found in this card when upright, as well as morality, and a suggestion that tradition should not be accepted blindly; after all, Faith is the manifestation of tradition.  Because my Faith card is reversed, tradition (and the rules associated with tradition) may hold me back today.  My Faith card is being flavored by the Eight of Wands. The Eight of Wands (Mercury, reason, intelligence, education, skill, communication, in Sagittarius, “I seek,” philosophic, fun-loving, adventurous, blundering) is a card of action, of quick developments, and of pulling it all together so things can be completed.  The energies of this card are fast and strong and sudden, and while the dust will surely fly, the end result should be balance.  This one is kind of a Minor Arcana version of The Wheel, and it really does validate my reversed Faith card.  Nothing written in stone will work for me today!

My 6-digit date number is 4, the number of depth and stability.

My horoscopes: “Air those grievances. You're a flexible sign, Sagittarius, but as the Moon in your seventh house of partnerships clashes with communicative Mercury today, you might not be able to keep your cool if your needs aren't getting met in a key relationship. Whether this involves a partner in business or in love, you need to express what you feel or you'll wind up a passive-aggressive mess. Just beware that you may totally miss the other person's perspective on the issue, so don't make any hard and fast decisions.

And: “It may be hard for you to feel connected to anyone today. You are probably better off just keeping to yourself. If you are feeling sad or depressed, it is best to work through these feelings on your own. Other people are not apt to be too sympathetic to your situation. You are better off sticking to your work in order to keep the demons out of your head.
