Nine of Swords/Queen of Cups reversed. The Nine of Swords (Mars, action, spontaneity, aggression, in Gemini, “I think,” curious, talkative, social, dual) represents brooding and worrying, the kind that takes place in the wee hours of the morning.  The problem with this kind of worrying is that it is expending energy that does not contribute to correcting the troubling issues; on the contrary, these worries could actually make things worse. The Queen of Cups (cusp of Gemini, “I think,” curious, sociable, dual, and Cancer, “I feel,” sensitive, tenacious, nurturing, moody) is Water of Water, and thus in an upright position is quite deeply connected to her feelings and her Inner Voice.  This Queen is Minor Arcana equivalent of The High Priestess can be seen as a mirror that reflects the “secret selves” of others back to them so they can understand themselves.  Because she is reversed, and paired with the Nine of Swords, I need to be very cautious that my emotions don’t end up encouraging the worry of the Nine.  Sometimes being in touch with the emotional undercurrents around me can bring pain, and maybe that pain is not realistic because the situation I am perceiving is not realistic.

My Thoth card is the Prince of Swords reversed.  The Prince (Knight) of Swords (the cusp of Taurus, “I have,” sensual, stubborn, cautious, and Gemini, “I think,” curious, talkative, dual, intelligent) is not afraid of taking action, not afraid of wading into conflicts, and not afraid to implement new ideas (even if he has trouble settling on just one or two to support).  Because this card is reversed, I am being warned that I could be causing pain without meaning to.  Talking is fine, but listening needs to happen, too.

My Legacy card is The High Priestess, flavored by the Five of Cups. The High Priestess (Water; the Moon, feelings and emotions, illusion, imagination; Gimel, the camel who safely crosses Da’ath, the Abyss, and thus, has the secret of life; and the Path between Tiphareth, the hub of the creation process where energies harmonize and focus to illuminate and clarify, and Kether, the source, limitless possibility), is the source of the power of The Magician, the feminine version of The Hierophant, and the Keeper of the Mysteries. This card has been my significator for the past two years or so, and is telling me that for today, I need to look within for the answers I seek.  The Five of Cups (Mars, action, aggression, drive, in Scorpio, “I desire,” intense, controlling, mysterious, obsessive) tells of the cloudy sludge that is stirred up when still waters are disturbed.  Because it is flavoring my High Priestess today (and taking into account the other cards I have thrown), I need to be very careful about exactly what feelings I focus on today.  Experiencing the Mysteries can be a painful and chaotic experience, but I am accepting this pain and this chaos willingly; thus, it is not happening because of the actions of others, but because of what I have chosen to open myself to.  No judging, of myself or others.  I must aim towards higher focuses.  I do understand what these cards are telling me.

My 6-digit date number is 8, the number that represents the conscious effort to overcome the degeneration of the number 7 in order to maintain the harmony of the number 6.

My horoscopes: “Today is like playing a game on your home field, Sagittarius. You have fans supporting you and you know the territory. Take advantage of the little things that you have going for you. There is a dramatic force at work that is erratic but extremely powerful as long as you maintain control. Stay focused on your goals. True happiness is only a small step away.”

And: “A big personality who is long on talking and short on doing will frustrate you today. Beware of the people who brag the most, because they usually have the least to brag about. This person is all talk and no action -- and is absolutely no threat to you whatsoever. Your best tactic is to keep your head down, embrace modesty and let your actions speak for you. Making a lot of noise and churning up clouds of hot air have never been your style, so don't start now!”

Technology: “The social part of your personality will come in handy in the world of work. Exercise your ability to make others feel genuinely interesting -- let the conversation be all about them. Ask lots of pointed questions and listen intently.”

My Sun reading: “What you want is as good as secured when a dedicated, communicative, and alert Moon trines ambitious Saturn. Tonight the Sun lightens hearts and the Moon continues to stimulate conversations. The part Uranus plays in the equation is to bring an abundance of acquaintances who could become friends.”

I was leafing through the Weird NJ edition called “Last Exit: Travels With Death In The Garden State,” and what to my wandering eyes should appear, but a familiar name!  I read the first sentence of an article entitled “Aleister’s Ashes,” and actually laughed out loud.  It goes like this: “Most of Aleister Crowley’s life would give you absolutely no hint that the disposal of his remains would have anything to do with New Jersey.”  Now, anyone who knows me at all would also know that sentence would hook me, instantly.  Uncle Al, The Beast, The Wickedest Man On Earth, buried in New Jersey?

Apparently so.  During Crowley’s time with the O.T.O, he became friends with a gentleman named Karl Germer.  It seems that Germer had a bit of money (through his second wife), and he supported Crowley financially, and the O.T.O.  The Germers moved to New York in 1941, and eventually purchased and moved to a farm in Hampton, Hunterdon County.  After Crowley died, the other members of the O.T.O. asked two things of Germer: first, to take over the leadership of the O.T.O., which Germer refused, and second, to dispose of the ashes of one Aleister Crowley, which he did.  On his property in Hunterdon County.  By smashing open the urn containing Crowley’s remains and sprinkling them at the foot of one of the trees on his 8 acre parcel.

How cool is that??!!

  1. So, if you walk by that tree, do you think the root comes up to trip you? Oh, uncle Al!

  2. LOL, that sounds right up his alley. As far as I can tell, no one has identified the exact tree, and Uncle Al ain't telling!
