Transparent Oracle Sunday!
54, Guide: Giant (Below). The direction of Below is not easily associated with
spirituality, yet it is a powerful symbol representing the opportunity to
create a strong foundation, and to connect to the tools and powers of the
Underworld.
Giant corresponds quite a bit with the element of Earth and Earth
energies, and is about the stability of the ground below us, and about the huge
geological forces that formed our world and even now, change it. In most fairy tales, the Giant ends up
being a great big bump in the road for the hero of the tale, and without these
kinds of challenges, we would never get the chance to be brave or to see if we
have courage.
37, Guide: Raven (North). North is the direction of Earth, and thus of
the physical or physically formed or manifested world, and of nurturing,
health, finances and security, and the wisdom associated with living simply,
being well-grounded, and being in touch with our physical body. Raven is a clever bird, often portrayed
as a trickster. Raven is known for
assisting us in the transformation from one realm to another, often manifested
in a similar way as my own Totem, Turkey Vulture, by cleaning up dead things. Raven
is known as a skilled communicator, able to use intelligence and language (not
necessarily verbal language) in order to convey messages from the Gods.
63, Touch (and
Taste) (Within). Our senses connect us to the physical world, and the sense of
Touch is the most solid and least deceptive sense; touch is the method we use
to find our way around and to dispel illusion. Taste is a part of Touch, for it is by bringing things into
contact with our tongues that we Taste them, enjoying the yummy tastes and
grimacing through the unpleasant ones.
Contact is the key here, and connection; they can be pleasant or violent. Contact can bring a sense of support
and security, and touching something can dispel illusions. This is not just a receptive sense, for
we show love and support by touching others.
I then stacked my cards and
created my mandala. The most
prominent figures in this one are Raven, their beaks touching in the middle of
the pattern. The colors of Giant
and Touch appear to be emanating from each Raven; perhaps the contact between
them all has created some special magick?
Earthly energies really do represent the microcosm and the
macrocosm. We sense the ebbs and
flows of days and nights, of seasons and lifetimes. There are larger patterns as well, patterns the size of solar
systems or universes, the length of decades or eons. Some manifest so fast that they can’t be perceived; others
can’t be perceived because they are slow or huge or tiny. They are there, however, and just
understanding that the wood of the table beneath my hand took time to create
(and is constructed with the stuff of stars) can offer a Glimpse of the
Machinery of the Universe. That single
Glimpse could change the way I perceive the world.
