Transparent Oracle Sunday!!  My cards: 

63, Touch (and Taste) (Within). Within is the direction of the Self, and thus the cards associated with this direction deal with the ways our Self connects to the world and perceives the world, and the Self.  This direction is mostly abstract, and yet is our bridge to the Universe around us.  Our senses connect us to the physical world, and the sense of Touch is the most solid and least deceptive sense; touch is the method we use to find our way around and to dispel illusion.  Taste is a part of Touch, for it is by bringing things into contact with our tongues that we Taste them.  Contact is the key here, and connection; they can be pleasant or violent.

33, Element: Earth (North). North is the direction of Earth, and thus of the physical or physically formed or manifested world, and of nurturing, health, finances and security, and the wisdom associated with living simply, being well-grounded, and being in touch with our physical body.  Earth represents stable, material, practical energies that are slow to change; its dignities are cold/binds and dry/shapes.  Earth is the element of form and substance; it is connected to physical health, to material world security (and even wealth), and to our physical bodies and physical senses, and the pleasures and pains they bring.  Earth represents the fertile, nurturing and serene side of Nature, and it represents the tangible end result of our labors.

41, Gateway: The Celestial Realm (Above). The direction of Above takes us up and out of the four traditional elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth, and reminds us that we are but a small part of the Cosmos.  Above also reminds us that while the Machinery of the Universe is huge, it does have an effect on each of us, and each of us is an important part of the workings of that Machinery.  Both our solar system, and the vast reaches of space beyond, have an effect on us, and we need to acknowledge this effect and be aware of it.  While we should not allow only these effects to control our choices and actions, they are valid, and there can be higher meanings to seemingly mundane events at this time.  But if I don’t look up into the night sky, these events will happen without me knowing about them.

Hmm . . . .  I then built my mandala; talk about a compact image!  And a simple message, at least on the surface: close your eyes and sense the new growth around you, and you will be transported beyond the physical world.  The Gateway image is a 7-pointed star.  In Sacred Geometry, the 7-pointed star actually does not exist in a literal sense; because each side has a fractional measurement (some version of 14285743; for instance, if the total perimeter measures 100 inches, each side would be 14.2857inches in length), and not an even number, it cannot be drawn, and 7-sided shapes don’t occur in Nature. The processes of Nature just can’t create a shape with sides of 14.2857 inches.  LOL, at least in the Nature associated with the physical world.  What am I being told here?  I am a physical being, so my physical senses are important.  One effect my physical senses are able to create is contact with others, reaching out and touching someone else has power, both good and bad power.  The physical senses can also be a ball and chain; after all, they are LOUD, and they often distract us from the Other World, that place that can only be seen if we are able to cancel out the messages of our physical body (which messages are, after all, limiting us to physical world experiences), and fly above this physical world existence into an universe that is without limitation.

“Curiosity, breath, and presence can take me through almost any challenge. Those three things ensure that I will learn something, often something very subtle and important. I follow the lead of my instincts that tell me ‘Go to class. Now’ even when I would rather stay home and read a book. That inner voice is the voice of my teacher. It leads me to the teaching all around me. My life is better for it. My life is better, even when part of me complains again, ‘I hate this.’”

Isn’t that awesome??  Those are the words of T. Thorn Coyle, a wonderful blogist and activist.  Coyle mentions teachers in that post, and how important teachers are to her.  Sometimes we need the challenges presented to us by our teachers.   Hold the pose a bit longer, just one more breath.  Straighten up a bit **here** and relax these muscles **here**.  And breathe!  Don’t forget to breathe.  Teachers keep us honest and teachers keep us striving. 

I have many teachers in my life, and I am very, very lucky.  All around me are people who inspire me.  All around me are people who are accomplishing amazing things.   I am open to the lessons that are being presented to me, and I am blessed.

Five of Wands/Four of Wands.  Okay, that is a good progression. The Five of Wands, which corresponds with Saturn (discipline, responsibility, law and order) in Leo (“I am, passionate, dramatic, egotistical) indicates a struggle caused by annoying cross-purposes.  What I like (and need to be aware of) is that the discomfort caused by this card is actually plain old irritations and trivialities. These discomforts can have good results; being tested is an opportunity to achieve victory!  I am reminded today, as I clean my oven, that we sometimes need to scour at the tough spots.  The energies associated with this card make a good scouring pad. The Four of Wands (Venus, beauty, allure, relationships, in Aries, “I want,” action oriented, assertive, enthusiastic) is about building enough to become established.  This card encourages the breaking free of bonds, and it tells me that a bit of celebration may be in order at some point today, because I have accomplished some good things.  Nice combination, eh?  Scrub, and then sit back and feel good about what I’ve accomplished.

My Thoth card is the Three of Cups reversed.  “Abundance” is the upright keyword to this one. The Three of Cups (Mercury, reason, intelligence, orderliness, communication, in Cancer, “I feel,” sensitive, tenacious, nurturing, moody) is about connections, emotional abundance, and about blessings.  My card is reversed, and perhaps it is telling me that I needed the minor “meh” of the past few days in order to appreciate my connections.  A full measure of understanding has not come to me yet, but the card is showing up.  Don’t give up now.

My Legacy card is The Fool, flavored by the Page of Coins.  Nice!! The Fool corresponds with Air (hot/separates and wet/adapts, and challenges that tend to require the use of the intellect to solve), Uranus (technology, science, radical change), Aleph (the head, youthful learning) and the Path between Chokmah (male in the electric sense, dynamic energy and the origin of vital force and polarity) and Kether (the source; limitless possibility).  The Fool is the spark that begins the idea, and his powers and energies are neither positive nor negative, but they are optimistic.  This card is about beginnings of all kinds, and my Fool maybe even is offering a literal message: head out into the sunshine and go for a walk, and expect good things to happen The Page of Pentacles (Aries, “I want,” assertive, action oriented, Taurus, “I have,” sensual, cautious, stubborn, and Gemini, “I think,” curious, sociable, dual) is down-to-earth and responsible, and the Page is a listener and a learner.  My Page, which is flavoring my Fool, is reminding me that there are exciting possibilities out there today, and I have only to open myself to receiving them in order to gain access.  The Page of Pentacles loves to learn new things and have new experiences, but he also loves to also be a catalyst for change in the physical world, change for everyone.

My 6-digit date number is 5, the number that tells of motion that may bring the discomfort involved in ending stillness, but that also gets rid of stagnation.

My horoscopes: “You may be trying to deal with things in a neat, orderly manner today, Sagittarius. Try not to get too frustrated if things don't work out exactly the way you'd like. Tension may occur when matters of the heart come up for discussion. People may get rather emotional, sending your neat, orderly plan right out the window.”

And: “Completion of a long-term goal of some kind, perhaps creative in nature, could lead to new friends and an increase in income. Your detective instincts could be operating at a high level, and so you might find yourself wanting to delve into obscure fields that involve a lot of unknown factors, such as science, ancient history or metaphysics. You could discover that you have a real talent for this!”

My Shadowscapes Insight is regarding the Three of Wands.  Excellent!!  This card encourages me to act, to attempt to manifest my dreams even if there is not a clear path before me.  It is the action taken without that clear path that actually brings the path into view.  A great card for a sunny day in Spring, filled with potential to be manifested!

One of the blogs I love to follow, “The Secret Life of the American Working Witch,” has posted a trailer for an interesting film called “Part 1: Nobody Documentary” (and I apologize if I got the exact name wrong), an audience interactive film about mysticism, madness and suicide.  I know that sounds dark, but the trailer suggests otherwise.  An awesome Pagan author, Ly De Angeles, is directly involved with this documentary, producing and directing it.  After watching a trailer of a mere four and a half minutes, I’ve been drawn to ponder an interesting concept that is mentioned within the trailer: the fact that our modern culture does not have a formal “initiation into adulthood” process.  Just this tiny discussion of the possible consequences of this lack has caused that brain tickle . . . you know, that tickle that indicates the distinct possibility of an Aha! Moment. 

We really don’t have any kind of effective process in place to test progress toward “adulthood” (however we define that state of being), or rites or formal celebrations to acknowledge the achievement of adulthood.  All I need to do is look around me as I’m driving on the Parkway between Bergen County and Cape May, and watch the people in their huge SUV’s, talking on their cell phones as they weave in and out of traffic, tossing their Burger King bags out the window and onto the side of the road, and I instantly understand the manifestation of the words “what we’ve got is a society stuck in childhood.”  Could this be one root cause of humanity’s mad dash to annihilation?

The trailer also presents the idea of the fine line between mysticism and madness, imagination and delusion (many of us have probably had at least one moment where we’ve questioned our own connection to reality or the connection to reality of those with whom we interact), and the difficulties that can arise as we struggle to determine on which side of that line we are currently existing and attempting to function.

I’m working on anatomy this weekend for my Yoga Teacher Training, in particular the spinal column.  What amazing bodies we have!!  They deserve to be honored, and maintained to the best of our ability.  And this might include a bit of ice cream, or sleeping late one morning.  I honored my body today by getting my work done, and then doing a bit of Yoga.  Now, for a walk on the beach so I can soak up some sun and blue sky, and some great ocean air.  Then, a glass of wine with my Dahling.

The Lovers/Four of Wands reversed. The Lovers (Air, hot/separates and wet/adapts, quick and animated, intellectual, problems or challenges; Gemini, “I think,” curious, talkative, sociable, dual; Zayin, double-edged sword; and the Path between Tiphareth, the hub of the creation process where energies harmonize and focus to illuminate and clarify, and Binah, female receptive energy and the origin of form and structure) tells of duality, union, and personal choices.  This card is about love, but it is also about personal values and personal choices.  My own choices are important today, and they may have consequences, long term ones.  I need to infuse my choices with both honor and love. The Four of Wands (Venus, beauty, allure, relationships, in Aries, “I want,” action oriented, assertive, enthusiastic) in an upright position is about building enough to become established.  Because my card is reversed, I may end up dealing with challenges or burdens that are a bit confusing, either regarding their source or their cause.

My Thoth card is the Chariot reversed. The Chariot, which corresponds with Water (cold/binds and wet/adapts, and sensitive, emotional and imaginative energy that likes to stay the same or follow the same course), Cancer (“I feel,” sensitive, tenacious, nurturing, moody), Cheth (the fence), and the Path between Geburah (the place where forms and structure are challenged or affirmed) and Binah (female receptive energy and the origin of form and structure), and tells of having the control necessary to focus on goals, and to avoid distractions. My Chariot is reversed; Uncle Al sees this as “lust of destruction.”  Something to be aware of, or the day will be difficult; but laying back and resting is not always bad.

My Legacy card is Justice reversed, flavored by the Queen of Cups Justice is a card of adjustment, and it corresponds with the element of Air (hot/separates and wet/adapts, and quick, animated energy that usually brings problems or challenges that bring growth), Libra (“we are,” partnerships, balance, cooperation), Lamed (ox goad; training or teaching), and the Path between Tiphareth (the hub of the creation process where energies harmonize and focus to illuminate and clarify) and Geburah (the place where forms and structures are challenged or affirmed). This is also a card of karma, and of being accountable for our decisions and actions, and of a willing acceptance of responsibility. My Justice card is reversed, and oh boy, a lack of moral principles could be an issue.  My lack?  I hope not.  My reversed Justice is being flavored by the Queen of Cups The Queen of Cups (cusp of Gemini, “I think,” curious, sociable, dual, and Cancer, “I feel,” sensitive, tenacious, nurturing, moody) represents the energies of Water and The High Priestess manifested into the Minor Arcana.  She is very in touch with her emotions and her Inner Voice, sometimes to the point of seeming detached.  But she’s not detached!  She’s tranquil.

My 6-digit date number is 4, the number of depth and stability.

My horoscopes: “Relax and settle down today, Sagittarius. Take some time to enjoy where you are and the people around you. There's a promise that you need to fulfill, and you should think about how you can honor it now. Do something for others instead of keeping the focus on you and your goals and ambitions. The more you invest in others now, the bigger the payoff you will receive from these actions in the future.”

And: “You're probably in the right frame of mind to set specific goals for your future today - perhaps goals that would change your life significantly. My Shadowscapes Insight is regarding the Three of Swords.  **gulp **  Isolation and grief, the kind that can bring us down.  But this card tells us that there is a safe core within each of us that is safe from this isolation and grief.  Grief can be cleansing, and our tears wash away the damage and create a fresh, new start. 

I had a wonderful time with the Pagan Brain Trust last night.  Bug made an awesome meal, and we each had our time to speak about the issues in our lives.  I do need these nights, greatly.  We can talk about things, the four of us . . . things that not too many other people in my life can understand.  We finished with some great kirtan music, and then The Cake.

Now, I am in Cape May, sipping some wine with our neighbor, John, anticipating some gardening tomorrow.

Ace of Pentacles/Ten of Pentacles reversed.  Now, there is a clear message! Aces present potential only, and the Ace of Pentacles (Aries, “I want,” action oriented, assertive, competitive, Taurus, “I have,” sensual, cautious, stubborn, and Gemini, “I think,” curious, talkative, dual, social) tells of the presence of potential that is connected in some way to the physical world.  My Ace is telling me that I do have what it needs to achieve goals in the physical world.  I need to add my own essence to get things rolling. The Ten of Pentacles (Mercury, reason, intelligence, education, communication, in Virgo, “I serve,” practical, analytical, work and service oriented) in an upright position represents physical world wealth and bounty, and the attempt to maintain the status quo.  My Ten, a card of completion, is reversed, and paired with the Ace of its suit, a card of potential beginnings.  Guess what I am going to focus on today?

My Thoth card is the Four of Cups.  “Luxury” is the keyword for this one, but I’m not feeling it yet. The Four of Cups (the Moon, feelings and emotions, illusion, imagination, in Cancer, “I feel,” sensitive, nurturing, tenacious, moody), which tells us that too much pleasure deadens the senses.  Thankfully my card is reversed, perhaps satisfaction can happen without that deadening of the senses.

My Legacy card is the Ace of Swords (another upright Ace!), flavored by the Ten of Coins reversed. The Ace of Swords (Capricorn, “I build,” ambition, caution authority, cunning, Aquarius and Pisces, “I believe,” feeling, duality, soul growth, artistic) tells of the potential within the day to effectively use mental or intellectual abilities.  Today I can use my mind, my intellect, and my ability to analyze in order to deal with challenges.  Both Aces can be connected to honor and truth, and these two concepts should be laced into my day. My Ace of Swords is being flavored by the reversed Ten of Coins.  All right, I hear you already!  Having the focus to follow a long-term plan to its end might be challenging for me, and perhaps keeping that goal clear in my mind might be difficult.  Visualization is important, and with all this potential in both the physical world and my mental abilities spread around, I should be able to keep my eye on the prize.

My 6-digit date number is 11 (Archangel Uriel), which reduces further to 2, the number of polarity, balance, and “distance between.”

My horoscopes: “You may keep having the same thoughts over and over in your head, Sagittarius. Each day you may work out a different scenario for the way it comes to an end. My Shadowscapes Insight is regarding the Eight of Cups.  Nice one!  I love the image on this card; diving downward through the soft, caressing waters is a sensual delight.  Today I am being told that it is okay to step away from stresses and discomforts for a little while in order to take an emotional mini-vacation.  Doing so may allow me to determine which of those stresses and discomforts can be dealt with, and which ones need to be released and left on the sand so the high tide can sweep them away. 

I actually was able to work on some YTT homework today, and attended a Yoga class.  I’m still playing catch-up but I’m making progress.

The Moon reversed/Seven of Swords. The Moon of the Tarot Major Arcana corresponds with Water (cold/binds and wet/adapts, emotional and sensitive energy that strives to stay the same), Pisces (“I believe,” feeling, suffering, soul growth, duality), Qof (the back of the head), and the Path between Malkuth (the physical world of action and physical, outer reality) and Netzach (the stimulating factors of emotion and inspiration), is about feelings and emotions and instincts and the subconscious.  When upright, this can be a card of discomfort or fear, but since my Moon is reversed today, in the end any uneasiness I may experience could end up being harmless.  Thus, I should not allow my imagination to run away with myself, or I may cause the very problems I am fearing. The Seven of Swords (Moon, feelings and emotions, illusion, imagination, in Aquarius, “I know,” friendships, cause-oriented, the group, aloofness) in an upright position tells of the effort to maintain things as we want them, often through the use of deception and without considering the wants or needs of others.  We tend to fear change or the unknown, but insisting on keeping things just the way we want them can be dangerous, too

My Thoth card is the Prince of Wands reversed. The Prince/Page of Wands (Cancer, “I feel,” sensitive, tenacious, nurturing, moody; Leo, “I am,” passionate, dramatic noble egotistical; and Virgo, “I serve,” practical, analytical, work and service oriented) in an upright position tells of the coming of a spark that could create a mighty flame, if there is enough kindling and air to feed it.  This Prince is competitive and thrives on the recognition that comes when we win.  However, since my Prince is reversed, staying power could be an issue today.

My Legacy card is the Three of Coins reversed, flavored by The Hermit reversed. The Three of Coins (Mars, action, spontaneity, aggression, drive, in Capricorn, “I build,” ambition, cunning, competence) in an upright position tells of competence, planning and teamwork.  My Three of Coins is reversed, however, and if I am to achieve competence and manifest my plans into reality today, I might be better off working on my own.  The interactions of others may end up being a distraction, preventing me from achieving my goals.  The Hermit corresponds with Earth (cold/binds and dry/shapes, and material, practical and stable energy that is slow to change), as well as Virgo (“I serve,” practical, analytical, work and service oriented, orderly), Yod (open hand, touch), and the Path between Tiphareth (the hub of the creation process where energies harmonize and focus to illuminate and clarify) and Chesed (the place where forms and structure are stabilized and nurtured), and in an upright position is about searching within for a deeper meaning, often through solitude bordering on discomfort.  My reversed Hermit is flavoring my reversed Three of Coins, and it appears that I am being offered a split decision, for the reversed Hermit is about engaging with the world and connecting with the group.  Perhaps the message is that while I should not interact with a group in order to get things done, I should not allow the fulfilling of my tasks to bring about an intense isolation from the world.

My 6-digit date number is 10, the number that tells of the completion of a cycle; it reduces further to the number 1, which represents potential, position, and new beginnings.

My horoscopes: “Check your messages often, Sagittarius. Someone is trying to contact you and you may keep missing each other by minutes. It's important to connect with this person to take care of some matters. If your objectives are clear, things should work out fine. Two people working toward the same goal make the power of the joint effort extremely potent. Don't underestimate this incredible influence.”

And: “Today is looking good for you, so get out there and enjoy it! Take the current opportunities while they are there because the sky might be a bit cloudy tomorrow. At this time you may feel as if there are certain long-term trends pulling on your self-esteem in negative ways. Don't become burdened by this force. My Shadowscapes Insight is regarding the Ten of Pentacles.  Following a long-term plan to its end, and honoring the cultures and traditions and teachings around me, can bring many blessings.  Today is about setting into a well-deserved advantageous situation; tomorrow will be about beginning to build anew, using what I’ve gained today.

Three of Pentacles/Four of Pentacles reversed.  Well, nice! The Three of Pentacles (Mars, action, spontaneity, aggression, drive, in Capricorn, “I build,” ambition, cunning, competence) tells of competence, planning and teamwork, and it appears these things will be important today, at least in the physical world. The Four of Pentacles (the Sun, the inner core of a person or situation or the deepest self, in Capricorn, “I build,” ambition, authority, caution cunning) in an upright position tells of very solid foundations and an awareness of the value of our possessions.  However, my Four of Pentacles is reversed, so instead of ownership or instead of attempting to keep things the same, I am being told that I need to let things happen as they will, and I need to allow my impulses to have a voice.  Planning is important, as stated by the Three of Pentacles, but I can’t own things to the point of impeding myself.

My Thoth card is the Six of Cups.  “Pleasure”!  The Six of Cups (Sun, the inner core of a person or situation in Scorpio, “I desire,” intense, compulsive, deep, obsessive) is a card of innocence, emotional balance and harmony.  Crowley sees this one as the best in the entire deck, filled with simple joy that begets even more simple joy

My Legacy card is the Ace of Swords reversed, flavored by the Four of Wands reversed. The Ace of Swords (Capricorn, “I build,” ambition, caution authority, cunning, Aquarius and Pisces, “I believe,” feeling, duality, soul growth, artistic) tells of the potential within the day to effectively use mental or intellectual abilities.  My Ace is reversed, however, and this could mean that I am not able to tap into my intellect or my ability to analyze in an effective way.  My reversed Ace of Swords is being flavored by the reversed Four of Wands. The Four of Wands (Venus, beauty, allure, relationships, in Aries, “I want,” action oriented, assertive, enthusiastic) in an upright position is about building enough to become established.  With this card reversed, and flavoring my reversed Ace, I may be dealing with some bewildering burdens today.  I may not know where they came from, or I may not feel able to find resolution.  But if I take a deep breath and do my best, I will survive.

My 6-digit date number is 9, the number of completeness of effect or manifestation.

My horoscopes: “Money that you may have been hoping to use to better your living or working condition could suddenly come your way today, Sagittarius. Ideas for how to put it to work in the most efficient, satisfying way could pop into your mind quickly. You will probably want to write them all down, consider your options carefully, and then choose the ones that suit your needs best. Go to it.”

And: “You should have fun enjoying the frivolity of the day, but realize that there is a degree of seriousness that must be maintained, or at least acknowledged. In some ways people might not act like themselves today, thanks to the strong celestial lineup of the day. Try to maintain your poise at all times so that people can look to you for support as well as a good time.”

My Shadowscapes Insight is regarding the Eight of Wands.  Oooooh, just what I need.  A sudden eruption of energy may very well stir things up today.  I need to see this as a positive thing, as seeds I did not know I had in my possession could be spread out on fertile ground because of this eruption of energy.  I see this card as representing a literal sowing of seeds, too, as that is what I did this weekend.

It has been a crazy day.  I’ve been fighting the clock this entire day, with circumstances conspiring to make me late.  I’ve kept calm and done my best, and I’ve been on time.  LOL by the skin of my teeth, but on time.

Now, it’s time to relax.

Transparent Oracle Sunday!  On Monday!

32, Weather: Snow (North).  North is the direction of Earth, and thus of the physical or physically formed or manifested world, and of nurturing, health, finances and security, and the wisdom associated with living simply, being well-grounded, and being in touch with our physical body.  Snow has a magickal effect on the landscape and our surroundings; when snow falls, it covers everything and hides details as well as mutes sounds.  The mantle of white is made of countless tiny, unique crystals, and like a blanket, the covering of snow insulates and protects.

21, Gateway: Autumn (West).  Autumn is a time of reaping the fruits of our labors and of acknowledging the gifts and influences of those who have come before us.  Autumn is also a time of shifting awareness, shifting away from all that is outer and active and brightly lit and towards all that is inner and passive and in the shadows.  The Veil Between The Worlds begins to thin, and messages may appear.

13, Element: Fire (South).  South is the direction of the midday sun and the peak of power and illumination; this direction is associated with passionate drive and creativity.  The element of Fire manifests as spontaneous, impulsive and energetic change; its dignities are hot/separates and dry/shapes. Fire has often been used as a representation of Spirit or the Divine, and this makes sense.  Fire brings transformation, animation or life, courage, and intent.  Fire has its dangers, though; it brings transformation through destruction that brings new birth.

I then stacked my cards and created my mandala.  The first thing that I noted was that the “fruits” of Fall are acting as a container for two opposing manifestations: Snow and Fire.  Perhaps these cards are reminding me to always be aware of my gifts, both those that are the result of physical world labors and those that are less visible yet equally important.  There are messages to be had in all kinds of transformation.  As the seasons change and the sun warms, I must not forget to look within, so I can harvest the fruits of Winter as Winter passes away.
